The Water Machine vs Pur: Which one is the best in 2021

Many of us desire to lead an active, healthy lifestyle. Those of us who do understand how essential clean water is for our physical and emotional well being. Pure water that is free from contaminants such as chemicals or pathogens cleanses us of toxins and cellular waste, energizes us, and turbocharges our metabolism, enabling us to perform at our best. Proper hydration gives us the power to take on the world!

Alas, most of us live in places where the quality of our drinking water is less than optimal. Whether it’s water treatment chemicals such as fluorine or chlorine, heavy metals, or even bacteria, sometimes our municipal water service can put us at risk. Many of us have tried bottled water, but the companies that bottle water often are simply bottling tap water! And even those who make bold claims of acquiring it from some exotic location are simply tricking you into paying more for less.

It’s time to stop buying tap water! You can cut way down on plastic waste and still get quality drinking water. And you can pay less money! A quality water filtration system will provide a superior alternative to the “spring” water you can purchase at your grocery store. In this page, we compare The Water Machine with Pur, a leading consumer brand that makes pitchers and other containers with built-in filters, as well as tap filters. When you read this analysis, we hope that you will learn what we already know: The Water Machine beats Pur’s products every time!

The Water Machine vs Pur Water Filteration Systems.

For this comparison, we chose Pur’s Faucet Mount Water Filtration System. According to Pur’s website, this filter is more thorough than Pur’s pitcher filters at removing toxins and other contaminants from tap water. Also, they are as affordable as any filter that comes with Pur’s pitchers and dispensers.

The Water Machine vs. Pur: What Contaminants Do They Remove?

In order to compare the filtration efficiency of Pur’s best filter and The Water Machine, we obtained filtration data from their respective websites. The Water Machine uses a carbon fiber reverse gravity fed water filter and below is the data from that information. Pur’s website lacked specific information pertaining to filtration efficiency for most contaminants. But we used the data that they had to offer.

Here’s an item-by-item comparison of the two products:

Legend

n/a - Manufacturer provided no percentage for what portion was removed

* The Water Machine reduced chemicals in these categories to undetectable levels. Although some of them were specifically tested for, none were found.

** Certain Pur retailers offer a disclaimer on their website stipulating that one should not put water into the filter known to be at risk of contamination from pathogens.

*** Although specifically named as a filtered contaminant, Pur does not indicate the percentage that it filters.

ª Although The Water Machine does not make specific claims about filtering microbial cysts, it does remove 99.999% of Bacillus Atrophaeus, which is approximately one-tenth the size of a Cryptosporidium cyst, the smaller of the two microbial cysts named by Pur.

¹ Pur claims to filter 92% of “certain pesticides”, but only names two that it filters at 92%.

² Pur claims its filters remove 94% of “certain pharmaceuticals”, but doesn’t specify which ones by name.

³ Pur identifies “pollutants” as a category of substances its filters trap, but only names two chemical compounds that it filters at a specific percentage.

⁴ Pur claims to filter 99% of microbial cysts, but only names 2 kinds.

Unlike modern water filters, The Water Machine offers purification at a molecular level. That’s because The Water Machine is not a filter, but rather a water purifier. The standards for water purification are much higher than for filtration, and The Water Machine meets those standards. It removes toxic chemicals from the water, as well as pathogens, heavy metals, and pharmaceuticals. Which system cleans your tap water better? After reading this chart, there is no comparison! The Water Machine beats Pur hands down!

Cost Comparison: The Water Machine vs. Pur

The Water Machine
The Water Machine 299.99
Replacement Filters 74.99

Pur
Faucet Mount Water Filtration System 19.99
Faucet System Replacement Filters (2-pack) 19.64

Now then, let’s see how long these two brands’ filters last:

The Water Machine Dual Reverse Gravity Water Filters 6000 Gallons (approx. 11 years)*
Pur’s Faucet Mount Filter

100 Gallons (approx. 2.2 months)*

* assumes that owner(s) use 1.5 gallons/day

You read that correctly! When you first purchase The Water Machine, one set of filters comes included which will last for 11 years! To use your Pur device for 11 years, you would need to purchase 59 replacement filters! Here’s the cost breakdown:

Pur Faucet Mount Filter (includes 1 Filter) 19.99
59 replacement filters (bought as 30 pairs) 589.20
 Total 609.19

By comparison, The Water Machine looks like this:

The Water Machine (includes 1 set of filters) 299.99

That’s a savings of $309.20 !! And remember, you’re buying a water purification system that outperforms Pur’s best filter! Never mind the trouble you will have figuring out how close your Pur faucet filter is to reaching the end of its useful life. Will you remember when you’ve reached 100 gallons of use? I doubt it...

Pros and Cons of the two water filtration systems

Pur

Pur does offer an affordable filter. You can indeed put a filter system on your faucet for $20, and get two replacement filters for it for about the same price. But you then have the problem of figuring out how often you have to change your filter, and then buy them and replace them. If you forget, or if you can’t find replacement filters, then you’re stuck with water from a filter that has been collecting contaminants until you do.

Never mind the fact that the filter simply isn’t going to strain out some of the most dangerous toxins that can be found in the water supply. Isn’t the whole point of purchasing a filter to put your mind at ease? How are you going to have that peace when you know that your filter is allowing in toxins and pathogens?

The Water Machine

The Water Machine does have one drawback - it has a $300 upfront cost. However, this price includes a pair of filters that will last you for 11 years! There is some maintenance to the filters - you will have to remove them and rinse them off occasionally, but this is a minimal task that doesn’t require leaving the house or purchasing more products.

Again - the purpose of a water purification system is to ensure the health of you and your family. This is water you can cook with, make tea with, use for plants and herbs, with minimal chance of developing complications from exposure to environmental toxins, heavy metals, or pathogens. Remember - you are saving money in the long run. So there really is no down side here!

Which should I buy? Pur or The Water Machine?

We hope at this point you have realized the benefits of this amazing product. The Water Machine stands as the very best domestic purification system. To get the same level of purification in another product, you would need industrial equipment installed in your home! If you want a cheap filter that you can replace easily, Pur is the brand for you. But The Water Machine will filter more water per dollar you spend. And it will remove far more contaminants than Pur’s faucet filter. What else is there to know? Purchase The Water Machine today!
