Do Gravity Filters Remove Fluoride?

What to Look for in a Fluoride-Reducing Gravity Filter

A good gravity-fed system makes purification uncomplicated: fill the top chamber, let gravity do the work, and pour from the lower reservoir. Before choosing one, however, check the parts that determine whether it can truly address fluoride.

First, make sure fluoride reduction is named directly in the filter’s documentation. “Improves water quality” is not the same as a fluoride claim. Next, find out whether the test result applies to the exact filter element you will receive, not a different version or an entire system tested under unrelated conditions.

Filter life matters, too. A fluoride-reduction medium has a finite capacity. Its performance can decline as it becomes exhausted, even if water continues to flow. Do not let “zero taste” be confused with zero minerals. Great-tasting water can be clean, refreshing, and free from chlorine’s chemical bite while still retaining naturally occurring minerals the filter is designed to leave behind.
